1:1 Pilates

MOVEMENT HEALS
Discovering Pilates fundamentally changed my relationship to my body.  Learning and understanding how to move well; to release holding and compensation patterns in some areas and switch on and wake up body connection in other places was transformational.  To discover what my own movement strategies were and how to change them has given me strength and movement I didn’t think possible in my 50’s and makes the possibility of still climbing hills into my 80’s more likely!

As my body changes and ages the process of discovery continues and the practice of Pilates continues, an endlessly fascinating journey.  Pilates gives me inner and outer strength that that ripples out into all aspects of my life. Pilates is a whole body method of movement exercises developed by Joseph Pilates as part of his wider views of health. It is often seen as all about building core strength but my experience is that it also offers a way to connect to, feel into and understand how our body moves and to find the subtle deeper connections in our body where we can start to build strength from. It offers a way to go back to the essence of functional movement and help us find more ease, range, length, coordination and strength. So we can walk taller, breathe easier and live more fully.

1:1 Pilates can offer

  • A supportive movement space with a teacher there to guide and facilitate useful movement for your body and mind.

  • An individual assessment and a programme of Pilates exercises appropriate to your particular health issues and concerns. During a session we can work out a plan of accessible and realistic movement you can do at home. This can be in relation to particular difficulties you might be experiencing and as a preventative tool to keep healthy and moving.

  • A space to reflect on your established Pilates or movement practice and give you some individual feedback and support with the movement you are doing and what might serve your body well at this time.

I have a particular focus and interest in a restorative approach to Pilates and how we can use movement to support a healthy nervous system, both in rest and in play.  I am also undertaking a mentorship with Claire Sparrow in Whole Body Pelvic health and work with clients who wish to explore this area whether you have a specific pelvic health concern or an interest to explore Pilates through a Pelvic Health lens.  I am committed to making movement accessible, safe and welcoming for all bodies.
