COUNSELLING

Why Choose Counselling?
Many of us experience a time in our lives when we need to work through difficult emotions and experiences, for example an unexpected setback or crisis, a sense of feeling stuck or trapped, internal conflicts that won't go away or experiences from the past that continue to impact on our lives.  At such times we would all benefit from taking time out to reflect on and make sense of what is happening in our lives.

Counselling offers you a safe space in which to explore the difficulties you are facing, to better understand how and why you think, feel and behave as you do.  Counselling can help you to draw on your own resources, gain new perspectives and allow you the freedom to move forward in a more positive and empowered way.

An important factor in the success of any counselling or therapy is the relationship between counsellor and client.  The importance of developing a therapeutic relationship that is compassionate and respectful, allowing you to feel heard, valued, accepted and understood, in order to find the space you need to reflect on what has brought you to counselling.

People need different things at different times, and no single model of counselling will suit everyone. An integrative counselling approach embraces the benefits of drawing on a range of models and techniques, in order to offer personalised and flexible support, to meet an individual's needs in the most useful and effective way.

What to expect:
Counselling sessions last for one hour, and usually take place weekly.

Our first session will be an opportunity to meet and get to know each other, for me to better understand your difficulties and what you hope to achieve in counselling. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.

It is difficult to predict the number of sessions you will need.  Some people choose a short-term arrangement of around 6-10 sessions, whereas others prefer longer-term counselling support where the ending is left open.  In either case we will review your progress at appropriate intervals to ensure we are keeping your goals in sight.
