This time-lapse video shows (half!) of a pop-up style acupuncture clinic recorded, with permission, at Sheffield Hallam University during one of their annual Staff Wellbeing Week events.

By providing acupuncture in a group setting, the number of 45 minute sessions available under the NICE guidelines changes from x7 in a 1:1 setting to x20 in a group setting - as just 15 minutes of contact time recorded in the group setting.

Acupuncture for chronic primary pain 1.2.5

Consider a single course of acupuncture or dry needling, within a traditional Chinese or Western acupuncture system, for people aged 16 years and over to manage chronic primary pain, but only if the course:

  • is delivered in a community setting and

  • is made up of no more than 5 hours of healthcare professional time.

This is an example of ‘seated’ group setting at an auricular acupuncture clinic for depression and anxiety at Inner Gloucester PCN.

The same ear points (NADA protocol) are used for each patient and left in for 20 to 30 minutes. Patients arrive at a similar time, there’s a small amount of chat when people settle and the needles are put in, they then sit quietly until the needles are taken out.
